Fab 5 in Fingal

Jakob Ingebrigston (NOR)

Gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 1500 metres event, setting a new Olympic and European record. Ingebrigtsen also won two gold medals at the 2018 European Championships, in the 1500 and 5000 metres events.

In 2019, at 19 years of age, Jakob, claimed his fourth gold medal in succession at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships, finishing comfortably clear of his nearest opposition in the junior race.

The Ingebrigtson brothers have won all European Cross Country titles available, including Jakob at junior (4 times), Henrik at U23 (2012) and Filip at senior (2018).

Fionnuala McCormack (IRE)

The 4-time Olympian is poised to extend her sensational record of most SPAR European Cross Country Championships appearances to 17 at this year’s Fingal-Dublin 2021 edition.

The 2011 and 2012 European Cross Country champion just missed out on an individual medal at the last edition in Lisbon two years ago, but a fourth-place finish propelled the Irish team – which also included her younger sister Una – to a silver medal in the team race.

In total, McCormack has amassed 7 SPAR European Cross Country Championship medals including 3 individual (U23 silver and 2 senior gold) along with 4 team medals.

Nadia Battocletti (ITA)

Battocletti is the only Italian woman to have won an individual title at the European Cross Country Championships and she has done so twice, triumphing in the U20 race in 2018 and 2019. She has since graduated out of the junior ranks and Battocletti has the luxury of choosing between the U23 and senior races next month.

Battocletti won on the track at U23 level at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Tallinn – one of six gold medals which propelled Italy to the top of the medal table in the Estonian capital – before making another significant step forward in her nascent senior career at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Jimmy Gressier (FRA)

After winning no fewer than six cross country titles at U23 level, France’s Jimmy Gressier is in form to open his senior medal haul at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Fingal-Dublin on December 12th.

Now 24, Gressier will be stepping up to the senior ranks having won gold medals at five successive editions of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships. Not only did Gressier win individual and team titles in the U23 race in 2017, 2018 and 2019 he was also part of France’s gold medal-winning team in the U20 race in 2015 and 2016.

Yasemin Can Arslan (TUR)

Vivian Jemutai has lived in Turkey since March 2015 and was cleared to represent Turkey in 2016. After missing most of the 2019 season, she managed to win gold at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Lisbon to secure a fourth consecutive title.

The Turkish athlete was a finalist at the 2016 Olympic Games and also won a double gold medal in the same year for 10,000 m and 5,000m at the European Athletics Championships held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
